Sustainability at Zound

At Zound we see sustainability like a journey. Being in the headphone and speaker business means we have a responsibility to take care of the environment and everybody who plays a part in making our products. We are working hard to design sustainable products, minimize our impact on the environment, improve our sourcing and create a great workplace for our employees. Find out more about what we are doing and what we’ve already achieved in the sections below.

Sustainable design

Through clever design and careful choice of materials we want to create enduring, quality products that our consumers use for a long time.

Our approach

Right from the concept stage we think about how we can make our products durable – both in terms of how they look and their quality. In all new projects we use a sustainability design checklist covering all stages of the lifecycle of the product, from responsible choice of material to prolonging the lifetime of the product.

Our achievements

• Eliminated harmful chemicals like mercury, brominated flame retardants, and phthalates from all our products • Removed almost all plastic from our packagings. Instead we use cardboard or paperboard • Longer lasting products thanks to extended battery lifetime, exchangeable and washable parts and spare parts

Reducing climate impact

We strive to reduce our climate impact of our business operations by reducing CO2 emissions from production, transport and product packaging.

Our approach

Production and transportation make up a large part of our climate footprint. We work with our manufacturing and logistics partners to measure, manage and reduce our impact. Elsewhere we look at how we can reduce the impact of our operations and help our employees live a more sustainable lifestyle.

Our achievements

• Evaluated different methods of transport and use sea freight as much as possible • Moved our warehouses closer to our markets to cut down on transport • Lowered the need for emergency air freight by improving product development and forecasting processes • Encouraged employees to use environmentally friendly transportation

Responsible Sourcing

We have a responsibility to protect and promote the human rights of workers in our supply chain. Working with our suppliers we want to improve workers conditions and give them a better future.

Our approach

Our Supplier Code of Conduct sets out our standards regarding human rights, health and safety, the environment and anti-corruption. We work closely with our direct suppliers to make sure they achieve these requirements.

Our achievements

• Trained all our suppliers in our supplier Code of Conduct to improve conditions and working hours • 3rd party sustainability audits at all our direct suppliers at least once every three years • Trained staff to become certified auditors so we can inspect direct suppliers more often and work closer together on corrective actions

A zound workplace

Our employees are the heart and soul of Zound. Their engagement and passion foster a culture that is hard to find elsewhere. We want to nurture this to build a fair and inspiring workplace where our employees thrive and develop.

Our approach

Our values are the basis of everything we do and we encourage our employees to live them every day. With our code of conduct we give employees the skills and knowledge to navigate tricky situations to uphold these values, remain ethical and retain integrity.

Our achievements

• Released new human resources and anti-corruption policies • Implemented Zound Play, our employee code of conduct • Trained all employees in anti-corruption • Introduced an internal whistleblowing function so our employees can safely report any malpractice or misconduct • Carried out regular employee surveys and followed up on their outcomes.
